Florida is famous for her beautiful beaches, but the Sunshine State offers far more than just white sand and blue water. The state is replete with beautiful natural areas. In one of those, the Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area (nature park) in St. Petersburg, Florida, Charley produced for several years the music portion of the Boyd Hill Festival. The festival location was so magnificent that he decided to realize a long-time dream and found an acoustic music learning camp in Florida. That became Charley's annual Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp.
Left, Charley teaches two students in a little "outside of class" session with the camp director, at the 2002 camp. Held the second weekend of October annually, the camp offers over one hundred class sessions in a very wide variety of acoustic music and instrument playing, songwriting, singing, playing in a group, music theory, and more. Eager students come to Florida to combine a vacation in the sun with a truly meaningful learning experience...and lots of fun.

Charley is actively interested in and currently working on setting up similar music camps in other parts of the country, and plans to have others in place soon.

I want to be sure you know your camp was actually a kind of life-changing experience for me. I never thought I could learn so much while having so much fun and connecting with so many great people in one weekend! I'm energized and enthused and playing better than I used to play. We're planning to start a band. Thank you, thank you. See you next year!
Letter to Charley from a student at the 1998 Sunshine State camp.
In addition to his camps, Charley offers a number of seminars in a variety of musical subjects: instrument playing, music reading and theory, arranging, playing in a group, and more. Most seminars are 3-4 hours or less in length, and can be held in association with performing dates or separately. Contact Charley for details.
