How can we register for the camp from here in the web site?

It's easy! Just go to the Registration Section of the site (by clicking on [Registration] in the top menu), click anywhere in the white space on the form you'll find there, then follow directions!

BE SURE TO MAKE OUT YOUR CHECK OR MONEY ORDER TO CHARLES C. GROTH, not to the Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp. Don't forget to write CAMP in big letters on the front of the envelope before you send in your mailed registration(s).

What's this we hear about a big concert Saturday night?

The camp does indeed feature a major concert on Saturday night--at least three hours of music! All of the camp instructors and often special guests perform. You'll get to see and hear performances by some of the best acoustic musicians anywhere! The concert is completely free to registered students, their spouses/significant others, and kids. Admission for persons not attending the camp is $15. What kind of jam sessions go on at the camp?

On both Friday evening and at a scheduled times Saturday and Sunday there will be organized and mentored jam sessions in which both instructors and students are encouraged to participate. Instructors assist students. There are also spontaneous jam sessions all weekend. The music really never stops!

Will it be possible for me to bring my spouse/significant other, children, grandma, dog, cat, armadillo to the camp.?

Husbands, wives, children (and grandma too) who do not register for classes are welcome at the camp. Fee for these folks is $10 each. They may attend the concert and jam sessions, but not classes. Children must be supervised at all times. The Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area, where the camp is held, does not allow pets of any kind on the grounds.

Are there single-day rates available?

We vigorously encourage everyone to register for the full two-day class schedule, and to attend the Friday evening orientation and jam session too, because we want the camp to be a full weekend experience for everyone. If, however, you really can only attend for one day, day rates are available. We know someone who really wants to come to the camp, and could really benefit from it, but just can't afford to come. Is there any possibility that some arrangement could be made?

We understand that there is camping available on site, R.V. spaces, bunkhouses on the grounds, and nearby motels. Could you give us more information?

Other than the grills and picnic tables, are there any cooking/eating facilities available in the Boyd Hill park?

In the Central Hall there is a refrigerator you may use for storage and a microwave oven you may use to warm food. There are also chairs and tables available for use inside the Central Hall.

What about restaurants?

There are a great many restaurants (American, Thai, Chinese, others) located on nearby 34th Street, a major St. Petersburg route.

What about smoking?

Smoking anywhere on the camp grounds is discouraged. If you must smoke, do not do it any buildings are near any classes. The Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area, where the camp is held, does not allow the smoking in any building on the the grounds.

What about alcoholic drinks?

The Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area, where the camp is held, does not allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages of any kind on the grounds.

Can I videotape or audiotape the classes?

Video and audio recorders are permitted if individual instructors agree to allow them. All material recorded must be reserved for your personal use only.

What styles of music are taught at the camp?

The SSAMC explores acoustic music in all of its variety: Folk, country, blues, bluegrass, jazz, classical, pop, and swing are all heard at the camp. Many of the instructors are expert in a number of styles. The SSAMC has an easy going, open-minded atmosphere.
