GRANDPA FLATPICKED offers a tasty mix of traditional country music (Jimmie Rodgers style), jazz, blues, ragtime, Charley's own songs and instrumentals (among these a completely new recording of Florida Moon), and more. Instrumentation includes guitar flatpicking and fingerpicking, mandolin, Dobro, banjo, piano, organ, "hot" Autoharp, slide guitar, blues harmonica, and bass, plus close harmony vocals.

Here's what you'll get: My Rough and Rowdy Ways, a great old Jimmie Rodgers song we don't hear often these days, with that tinge of traditional jazz and ragtime that marked Jimmie's work, and a lot of good lead picking (guitar, mandolin, Dobro) on this version; St. James Infirmary Blues, featuring Autoharp (but not your grandad's Autoharp) and slide guitar;Grandpa Flatpicked, the album title tune, in which an old man teaches his grandson to play, and Grandad's guitar seems to call forth his spirit in the grandson's music after the old man is gone; Ashokan Farewell, Charley's personal favorite on this album--mandolin, guitar, piano, and harmonica, with bowed bass fiddle speaking deeply beneath the other music; Florida Moon, a complete remake of Charley's classic song, which has been recorded in several ways--in the original version by Jan Milner, in a very sweet version by Carl Wade and Something Special, even in a western swing version (that one by Buddy Moody), and here for the first time by Charley, done his way; Cactus Stomp, one of Charley's guitar fingerpicking instrumentals, written in Arizona many years ago but never before recorded; Barroom Girls, an entirely new take on Gillian Welch's "primitivist" song, with three-part harmony and slide guitar; Ain't Misbehavin', an acoustic string version of the Fats Waller swing tune; All American Ride, a flatpicking/swingy tune Charley wrote just before the destruction of the World Trade Center, and which he has dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack; Black Night, a deep-down Jesse Mae Robinson blues with piano, organ, harmonica, and slide guitar featured; March of the 10,000 Autoharpers, an Autoharp tour de force Charley wrote after seeing a photo of an enormous crowd of Autoharpers taken at festival in Pennsylvania; Country Pickin', a song about how the good old music never dies, with a rare recording of Charley playing banjo; and Frankie and Johnny, the old folk song with twelve-string guitar and blazing harmonica by Tom Stephens. REMEMBER ME is an international CD--some of it recorded in the United States and some in Europe. Charley's usual mix of country, jazz, blues, ragtime, his own songs and instrumentals and those of others sparks this album. Instrumentation on this one includes guitar flatpicking and fingerpicking, mandolin, Dobro, banjo, western swing and ragtime style piano, organ, Autoharp, and bass, plus close harmony vocals.

Here's what's on this one: Sugar Moon, the Cindy Walker classic made famous by Bob Wills. This was recorded in Prague, and features the sensational fiddling of Jiri Kralik of that city; I Wish I Didn't Know, one of Charley's own hard-driving country tunes with lots of hot instrumental work;Remember Me, the grand old Scott Wiseman number, fully instrumented and featuring three part vocal harmonies; Pallet On Your Floor, the good old fingerpickin' guitar tune with Charley's own slightly modified ending; As A Rule, a great story song by the famed songwriter Terry Smith, with whom Charley often tours; Wahoo, one of Charley's guitar flatpicking instrumentals, written to express his pleasure in playing the Wahoo country music festival in Nebraska, and elaborated here with lots of fiddle by Jiri Kralik; Deep Water, a Texas-style western swing outing showing off piano and guitar leads; Georgia On My Mind, a lush jazz version of the Hoagy Carmichael classic, recorded by Charley years ago and included on this CD; The Tickler, Charley's own piano ragtime instrumental saluting the great old piano tickler's of ragtime's golden age; Little Red Wagon, western swing immortal Hank Penny's theme song, recorded in Prague with most of the personnel who played it on tour in central Europe a couple of years ago;Songwriter's Blues, one of Charley's songs about a songwriter who focusses too much on his own broken heart; Spanish Fandango, a beautiful guitar instrumental Charley plays in an alternate tuning; ;The Band's Playin' Waltz Across Texas, Charley's own version of his composition made well-known and previously recorded by the very popular Tex and Mary Schutz; and I Am A Pilgrim, long Charley's theme song, with which he opens almost all of his shows. I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN offers Charley's usual mixture of styles, from real country to classic jazz, swing, ballads, and more. Charley's own songs and instrumentals are featured too, and among these is the title song, I Would Do It All Again, other audience favorites such as Count Your Blessings, the Lois Waltz and more. Along with Charley's strong vocals there are close harmony vocals and instrumentation including guitar flatpicking and fingerpicking, mandolin, Dobro, piano, fiddle, bass, and percussion. As always Charley features top-notch musicianship on this CD.

Here's the bill of fare: Wild Side of Life, another favorite with Charley's audiences and included at the top of the list as a salute to the late Texas country legend Hank Thompson, who wrote it and made it a huge hit; Rainbows After Rain, a lively and humorous reminder that after storms the sun does come back, and there are rainbows in the air; I Would Do It All Again, the album title tune, a ballad about the cycle of life and longtime love---one about which, when he heard it, master songwriter Terry Smith (Far Side Banks of Jordan and dozens of other songs that have been hits for artists like Johnny Cash and the Oak Ridge Boys) remarked "You'd better get that one on a CD, and right away..."; Count Your Blessings, a song that tells the story of something Charley's mother, a wise woman, always told her kids; an instrumental romp through Lady Be Good, the Gershwin jazz standard, that Charley recorded in Europe a few years ago and then added more to later, featuring Charley's guitar and mandolin, Juri (Fiddle George) Kralik's outstanding fiddling, and a superlative European band; I Remember You, an introspective ballad inspired by Charley's receiving a nice birthday note from his ex-wife (they've been divorced for a quarter of a century, are not in touch often, but are still on friendly terms), and by knowing a friend whose wife has passed on after a long and devoted relationship; The Two Indians, something for lovers of flatpicked guitar and hot mandolin, blending Cherokee Shuffle and Redwing into one of Charley's uptempo instrumental medleys in which, by studio magic, he plays both lead parts; Looks Like Love, an uptempo song about people who have been once burned being now twice shy about calling it love; the Lois Waltz, written for his friend Lois Keim of Nebraska, and one now played by musicians as far afield as New Zealand; Money On Your Mind, a look at the love of that old money and how it doesn't make for happiness; Arizona, an instrumental Charley wrote after a trip into remote Arizona mountains in search of ancient ruins (which he and his travelling companion did find); The Grizzly Bear Song (which had another name once, but everyone calls it The Grizzly Bear Song so now Charley does too), a humorous song about how sometimes we get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets... yeah; and Anytime, that great country/swing standard made famous by Eddy Arnold back in 1948, and still holding strong today. Oh, and there are two bonus tracks on the CD as well, one you'll probably know and one that has never been released in the United States before. You'll have to get a CD to learn what these are!
