WORKSHOPS
Charley currently offers two workshops he can present in association with his shows, perhaps in afternoons if shows are at night, or at other times before or after the shows: The NUTS AND BOLTS OF MUSIC workshop, which introduces the various aspects music theory and how they work to audiences in terms everyone can understand; and the FIVE SECRETS workshop for guitarists, presenting five key concepts which will help any aspiring guitarist vastly improve his or her playing. Both workshops include question and answer sessions after material is presented, and one-on-one help with the material. Both workshops last about 1 1/2 hours. Registration is usually prior to workshop date, with a minimum of six registrations needed for workshops to be presented. For more detailed information on the workshops, contact Charley Groth by e-mail.
THE AMERICAN ROOTS REVIVAL SHOWS
Charley Groth's American Roots Revival shows present the excitement of real American acoustic music in concert settings large and small. There is a great swell of interest across the country today in acoustic music, sparked by the immense popularity of the movie O Brother Where Art Thou. The American Roots Revival reaches out to the same audiences who loved this movie--people who enjoy the music of our American heritage in its many forms.

The Roots Revival format is simple and effective: Charley and his band, Charley Groth & Group are the featured performers, usually supported by one or sometimes two opening acts representing the best acoustic/traditional/roots music performers from the area where the show is being presented. Audiences experience something that is often new to them in Charley's own top-quality music, which has been compared to the music of Doc Watson mixed with that of a storytelling songwriter plus liberal infusions of traditional country, jazz, and folk styles...and something known and familiar in the music of the local area acts included.

Charley emcee's the show in his inimitable style, making audiences feel truly at home and at ease.

We're glad you honored Floral City with your American Roots Revival, Charley. It was a lot of fun, and I'm glad so many folks turned out! Having Jon Semmes on the show was a great idea, because everyone here knows him. Town Official, Floral City, Florida, after an American Roots Revival show there.

Right, program for a typical Roots Revival show. After an often humorous opening, Charley brings on the local acts. Following them there's a short break. Then Charley and his group take the stage for a longer performance. The shows end with an old-fashioned "community sing". Audience members love this parts of the show. They get to sing! People love to sing together. In today's busy and complicated world they don't get to do it very often.
All musician participants come back to the stage and the audience sings along on some great old American heritage songs. Charley is very good at putting everyone at ease and persuading them to let go and to join in! It's the perfect end to a great show, drawing everyone together as only music can do.

I'm not kidding, this felt just like a good old community day, the kind we used to have before the world was all television shows and DVD's and computers and so on. What a relief! Thanks! Letter from audience member after a Roots Revival Show.

Charley I think you aren't far from being some kind of a genius. This show was just great, just great. I don't know why on earth we don't do more of this kind of thing! I guess it takes someone like you to know how to do it and make it happen. Audience member after a Roots Revival Show.

There are several ways the American Roots Revival shows can be produced. They can be staged as independent ventures, as fund-raisers for worthy causes or service groups, as community ventures, in cooperation with other groups, under sponsorship arrangements, as a part of festivals, community, or area celebrations, and the like. The show itself is flexible and can be larger or smaller as needed. The Roots Revival team can provide needed sound equipment for smaller situations and can help with acquisition of good sound for larger situations. We will work with presenters on production, publicity, program production, advertising sales, and all other matters involved in having an American Roots Revival show. It's easier than you may think!
