It can be hot and humid in the summertime in Florida, making outdoor festival-going less than comfortable. We've found a GREAT indoor location for our festival in Plant City---a big, beautiful, AIR CONDITIONED historical school building with a great auditorium and lots of classrooms and other spaces for music, workshops, food, contra-dancing, jam sessions. Festival-making! |
| WE THINK YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS ! Everything you like to do at festivals can be enjoyed at this one---without the heat and humidity, and without any threat of rain. In this big building there is room to do it all! COME ON OUT OCTOBER 1st, this is going to be BIG FUN!!
WE HAVE A GREAT SLATE of performers ready to entertain you. Programs onstage in the spacious auditorium will begin at 11 AM and run throughout the day and evening. A wide variety of music, all live, no karaoke, will be presented: country, folk, old-time, vintage jazz, bluegrass, more. Youth performances will be included. THERE WILL BE OTHER ACTIVITIES to enjoy as well. We'll be having some workshops (see schedule); a songwriter's panel; storytelling moderated by Elizabeth Neily of the First Florida Frontiers, (Click here for First Florida's Web Site); displays by fine instrument makers; CDs and other musical merchandise for sale; and more. JAM SESSIONS: Lots of folks who love music love jam sessions, and we will have them at the Sunshine State festival! Bring your instruments and enjoy jam sessions all day!

In addition to the festival itself, you'll find fascinating historical displays in the school building, presented by the East Hillsborough Historical Society which operates the building. The beautiful old building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Click here for East Hillsborough Historical Society. The East Hillsborough Historical Society will also be offering food for sale at the festival. You won't even have to leave the building to get something to eat! Many of the performers in the festival (listed below) will have recordings you will be able to buy to take some of the great music home with you. Numerous CDs, DVDs and other music and storytelling related items will be available.
Come and spend the day, or a few hours, with us in air conditioned comfort, and enjoy the pleasures of the Sunshine State Music Festival in Plant City, Florida! The East Hillsborough Historical Society, the First Florida Frontiers organization, and Charley Groth are partners in presenting this festival.
